Major Update
A larger WordPress release with new features that should be tested in staging before going live.

Major updates use two numbers, like 6.5 or 6.6. They add features, change the editor, and can break themes or plugins that are not maintained. A careful workflow tests them on staging first, then applies to production after at least 24 hours of monitoring.
