GA4 troubleshooting without reinstalling and hoping

The short answer

GA4 troubleshooting starts by tracing what the site actually sends and which property receives it. We check the existing plugin, GTM container, measurement IDs, consent behaviour and event payloads. Then we repair the identified fault and validate it. We diagnose and fix the existing setup, never reinstall and hope for better numbers.

A loaded tag is not proof of a working property

A plugin can insert a script while sending data to the wrong property, an old container or nowhere useful. We compare the loaded code with your GA4 web stream and GTM publication. Access is requested through account permissions, not a shared password.

Missing or mismatched measurement IDs

We trace the ID from the site configuration to the intended web stream. Conflicting plugins or a copied staging configuration can send data elsewhere. We correct the source of configuration, test consent states and verify the destination rather than adding a second tag.

Plugin events that inflate counts

Some plugins automatically send events that duplicate GTM or application events. We compare payloads, event names and transaction IDs to the intended measurement plan. The repair removes conflicting senders or adjusts triggers. A browser request is checked against the intended user action, not celebrated as a conversion by itself.

Sessions or landing pages disappear after an update

We inspect when page_view and session context are sent, whether consent changed and whether navigation or caching delays the tag. We distinguish missing collection from reporting configuration and processing delays. A site update is a clue to investigate, not proof that GA4 lost the data.

What a repair includes

We record the current setup, reproduce the fault and agree which events matter. Changes are tested with Tag Assistant, browser network requests and GA4 DebugView where appropriate. You receive a record of the configuration and checks to repeat after future updates. Missing historical data cannot be recreated just by repairing a tag.

Frequently asked questions

Will you replace my tracking plugin?

Not by default. We first diagnose the existing setup and change only what the evidence supports.

Can you recover data that was never collected?

No. We can correct collection going forward, but cannot promise to reconstruct missing GA4 history.

Do you need access to GTM and GA4?

Usually yes, using the permissions needed for diagnosis and agreed changes. We also review the WordPress integration.
